Ariel Elizondo expone dos de sus esculturas en la Marina de Sotogrande

Desde principios del mes de abril, el puerto deportivo de Sotogrande cuenta con la presencia de dos impresionantes esculturas realizadas en metal y piedra. Ambas son obra del reconocido escultor vasco Ariel Elizondo, que mediante esta iniciativa de Puerto Sotogrande expondrá algunos de sus trabajos al aire libre durante los próximos meses.

Elizondo, procedente de San Sebastián, es heredero de la escultura vasca de Chillida u Oteiza, además de destacar por su propia y directa relación personal con los materiales que utiliza, ya que su propia familia cuenta con un negocio especializado en canteras. En su trabajo destaca el uso de la piedra natural y el acero corten, que se caracteriza por su peculiar proceso de oxidación.

“Siempre trato de hacer formas cubistas y geométricas que me vienen de mi relación con la arquitectura. Son trabajos hechos siempre a mano, tanto las más grandes como las de pequeño formato. En esta ocasión he apostado por traer estas obras idóneas para el exterior, aunque también realizo trabajos de piedra pintada”, nos explica Ariel.

Las dos obras presentes ya en Sotogrande son ‘El Abrazo’ y ‘Explosión de cubismos’, a las que se sumarán otras piezas a lo largo de los próximos meses.

Ariel Elizondo exhibits two of his sculptures at the Sotogrande Marina

Since the beginning of April, the marina of Sotogrande has had on display two impressive sculptures crafted in metal and stone. Both are the work of the renowned Basque sculptor Ariel Elizondo, who through this initiative of Puerto Sotogrande will be exhibiting some of his work outdoors during the next few months.

Elizondo, from San Sebastian, is inheritor of the Basque style of sculpture of Chillida and Oteiza, as well as standing out by his own direct and personal relationship with the materials he uses, since his own family has a quarrying specialised business. His work is characterised by the use of natural stone and Corten steel, which is distinguished by its peculiar oxidation process.

«I always try to make cubist and geometric forms that come from my relationship with architecture. My works are all handmade, both the larger ones and the smaller ones. On this occasion I have chosen to bring these outdoor pieces, although I also make artworks out of painted stone», Ariel explains.

‘El Abrazo’ (The Embrace) and ‘Explosión de cubismos’ (Explosion of Cubisms) are the two pieces already on display in Sotogrande, to which other exhibits will be added over the coming months.
