Patricia Darch: “La clave del éxito es tener pasión por tu trabajo y añadir siempre un toque de magia a lo que haces”

Referente de estilo y elegancia en Sotogrande, Marbella y Gibraltar durante décadas, la reconocida interiorista disfruta de su retiro mientras apoya el proyecto empresarial Darch&Co de sus hijos, que continúan su legado

Patricia Darch es una de estas personas que no necesitan presentación en Sotogrande. Esta especialista en diseño de interiores, se caracterizó también por impulsar reconocidas actividades artísticas y solidarias.

Muchas gracias Patricia por recibirnos en tu casa. Comenzamos por la pregunta que seguro que se hacen muchos de nuestros lectores. ¿Cómo estás y a qué te dedicas ahora?

• A apoyar mi familia en el nuevo negocio de interiorismo que continúa con lo que hice durante tantos años. Hace cuatro años vendí Patricia Darch Interiores en España y Gibraltar y ahora han comenzado una empresa nueva.

Para mi familia era lógico que siguiera el negocio, pero ha sido una vuelta al origen, porque cuando comencé en Sotogrande lo hice en esta misma casa, donde ahora comienza el camino hacia el futuro.

¿Como experta en interiorismo has trabajado mucho en Gibraltar, Sotogrande y Costa del Sol…

• Siempre digo que la “joya de la corona” de mi trayectoria fue una preciosa casa en Gibraltar, donde trabajamos durante dos años y medio. Fue una experiencia maravillosa. Siempre tuvimos clientes muy importantes en Gibraltar, en Marbella y Sotogrande, pero también en otros destinos como las Bahamas, Nueva York, Miami, Londres, hasta un barco en Sicilia… Y en todos esos lugares nos han acompañado también las obras de nuestra hija Jessica.

¿Siempre te has caracterizado por un estilo muy reconocible, cómo se consigue esa “firma personal” en tu trabajo? 

• Es muy importante el gusto del cliente y el presupuesto del que disponga. También la arquitectura de la casa, su personalidad, y adaptar todo a un estilo que no tenga caducidad ni responda a una definición concreta. Se puede mezclar bien lo antiguo con lo moderno y añadir siempre algo de ‘locura’ para que sea original. Otra clave es tener pasión por tu trabajo, entregarte a lo que haces, y añadir siempre un toque de ‘magia’ a tus obras.

Tres detalles clave para decorar una casa con buen gusto

• Lo primero escuchar al cliente, saber entender lo que quiere, y encontrar soluciones a cualquier contratiempo que pueda surgir. Pero sobre todo, adorar lo que haces y dar un buen servicio. Me encanta que 10 ó 15 años después mis clientes sigan disfrutando de las casas que les decoré.

¿Cuántas casas en Sotogrande tienen el toque de Patricia Darch?

• Contando villas, apartamentos, y hasta algunos edificios enteros… pueden superar las 150. He tenido siempre un buen equipo que entendía que el servicio al cliente era primordial. No sólo al entregar la casa, sino hasta años después ante cualquier problema.

¿Cómo ha influido en tu trabajo tener en casa a una artista como Jessica?

• Ha sido maravilloso porque hemos podido combinar todo juntos. Ella es una gran artista ya con su propio nombre, pero cuando trabajaba con nosotros le entusiasmaba adecuar cualquier obra al gusto del cliente, y yo también la motivaba a hacer cosas que le sacaban de su estilo y zona de confort, creándole retos apasionantes. En nuestra oficina en la Marina hacíamos muchos eventos de arte. La verdad es que lo echo de menos.

¿En toda esta trayectoria vital, cuál ha sido el papel de Raymond?

• Apoyándome en todo, queriéndome siempre, y también encargándose de la parte que menos me gustaba, (la contabilidad). En nuestra casa todo el mundo trabajaba (sonríe).

Hasta hace unos años organizabas en Sotogrande citas artísticas y también solidarias en recuerdo de tu nieto. ¿Volveremos a disfrutar de algún evento organizado por Patricia Darch?

• Hicimos dos galas de mucho éxito en favor de la Fundación Josep Carreras y me encantaría completar el trío, pero es muchísimo trabajo. Aún es sólo una idea, pero si lo hacemos, sería una ‘Opera on the beach’ en Trocadero, donde ya han ofrecido su espacio. Ha sido un auténtico placer hacer esto en nombre de mi nieto.

A style and elegance icon in Sotogrande, Marbella and Gibraltar for decades, the renowned interior designer is now enjoying her retirement while supporting her children’s Darch&CO business project, carrying on her legacy.

Patricia Darch is one of those people who need no introduction in Sotogrande. A specialist in interior design, she has also been known for her artistic and charitable activities.

Thank you very much for welcoming us into your home, Patricia. Let’s start with the question that I’m sure many of our readers are asking: How are you and what are you involved in now?

– Supporting my family in the new business, continuing what I did for so many years. Four years ago I sold Patricia Darch Interiors in Spain and Gibraltar and now a new era begins.

For my family it was logical to continue the business. However, it meant a return to our origins, as when I first started in Sotogrande it was from the same house that is now preparing the path for the future.

As an interior design expert, you have worked extensively in Gibraltar, Sotogrande and Costa del Sol….

• I always say that the ‘crown jewel’ of my career was a beautiful house in Gibraltar, where we worked for two and a half years. It was a wonderful experience. We have always had very important clients in Gibraltar, in Marbella and Sotogrande, but also in other destinations such as the Bahamas, New York, Miami, London, even a houseboat in Sicily… In all these places we have also been surrounded by the work of our daughter, Jessica.

You have always been distinguished though by a highly recognisable style, how do you achieve this ‘personal signature’ in your work? 

• The client’s taste and budget are very important. Also, the architecture of the house, its personality, and adapting everything to a style that does not have an expiration date or respond to a specific definition. You can mix the old with the modern and always add a bit of ‘madness’ to make it original. Another key is to have passion for your work, to give yourself to what you do, and to always add a touch of ‘magic’ to your work.

Top three key details to decorate a tasteful home.

• First of all, listen to the customer, understand what they want, and find solutions to any problems that may arise. But above all, love what you do and provide a good service. I love the fact that 10 or 15 years later my clients are still enjoying the houses I decorated for them.

How many houses have the Patricia Darch signature touch in Sotogrande?

• Counting villas, flats, and even some entire buildings… there can be more than 150. I have always had a good team who understood that customer service was paramount. Not only when the house was delivered, but even years later in the event of an issue…

How has having an artist like Jessica at home influenced your work?

• It has been wonderful because we have been able to combine so much of it together. She is a great artist in her own right, but when she worked with us she was enthusiastic about adapting any work to the client’s taste, and I also motivated her to do things that pushed her out of her style and comfort zone, creating exciting challenges for her. We used to do a lot of art events in our office in the Marina. In truth, I really miss it.

Throughout this career path, what has Raymond’s role been?

• Supporting me in everything, always loving me, and also taking care of what I liked the least (the accounting). In our house everyone worked (she smiles).

Until a few years ago you used to organise artistic and charity events in Sotogrande in memory of your grandson. Will we enjoy any event organised by Patricia Darch again?

• We held two very successful galas for the José Carreras Foundation and I would love to complete such a trio, but it’s a lot of work. It is still just an idea, but if we do it, it would be an ‘Opera on the beach’ at Trocadero, where they have already offered their space. It has been a real pleasure to do this on behalf of my grandson.
