La protectora hace balance de su 2024 con más de 600 adopciones de perros y continúa adelante con la construcción de su nuevo refugio, que espera inaugurar en primavera
La Fundación CANYA, ubicada en Los Barrios y dedicada al rescate y adopción de perros en el Campo de Gibraltar, ha cerrado el año 2024 con resultados extraordinarios. Tal y como ha confirmado en el newsletter que la asociación publica como resumen de su actividad anual, durante el año pasado un total de 644 perros encontraron un hogar definitivo gracias a su labor, una media de casi dos adopciones diarias.
Por su parte, el 2025 ha comenzado con la misma intensidad para esta ONG que ha logrado 60 adopciones ya en el mes de enero, manteniendo esa destacada media en una época del año especialmente negativa en el abandono de mascotas, justo tras las fiestas navideñas.
De estas primeras adopciones de 2025, 34 fueron de familias locales, mientras que 18 perros encontraron nuevos hogares en Alemania, 6 en el Reino Unido y 2 en Finlandia. Unas cifras que demuestran también el carácter internacional de la actividad de la Fundación CANYA gracias al trabajo constante de sus voluntarios, entre los que se encuentran varios ciudadanos de origen extranjero pero residentes en la zona.
Nueva entidad de interés público
Fundación CANYA también ha comenzado el 2025 con magníficas noticias a nivel asociativo, habiendo conseguido el reconocimiento oficial como entidad de interés público. Una calificación que además de refrendar oficialmente su labor también conlleva beneficios como la reducción de impuestos de construcción y la agilización de autorizaciones administrativas, cuestiones fundamentales especialmente en estos momentos en los que la ONG se encuentra en plena fase de construcción y equipamiento de su nuevo refugio.
Apertura prevista para marzo
CANYA confirma que, tras la contratación de una nueva empresa constructora, la edificación de su nuevo refugio en la finca Las Albutreras, también en Los Barrios, marcha a buen ritmo, incluyendo la creación de 20 recintos exteriores parcialmente techados para poder albergar a unos 50 perros. De hecho, el objetivo es tener estas instalaciones ya disponibles a partir del próximo mes de marzo. Todo esto ha sido posible también, como afirma la propia asociación, gracias a la generosidad de sus seguidores y colaboradores con sus donativos, entre los que CANYA destaca especialmente a la Fundación Sunley y a Bella Sunley por su fundamental apoyo financiero.

The CANYA Foundation embarks on an exciting 2025 with new projects and activities
The shelter takes stock of its 2024 with more than 600 dog adoptions and is continuing with the construction of its new shelter, which it hopes to open in the spring.
The CANYA Foundation, located in Los Barrios and dedicated to the rescue and adoption of dogs in the Campo de Gibraltar, has closed the year 2024 with extraordinary results. As confirmed in the newsletter that the association publishes as a summary of its annual activity, last year a total of 644 dogs found a permanent home thanks to its work, an average of almost two adoptions per day.
For its part, 2025 has begun with the same intensity for the NGO, which has already secured 60 adoptions in the month of January, maintaining this outstanding average at a particularly adverse time of year for the abandonment of pets, just after the Christmas holidays.
Of these first adoptions of 2025, 34 were from local families, while 18 dogs found new homes in Germany, 6 in the UK and 2 in Finland. These figures also demonstrate the international scope of the CANYA Foundation’s activity thanks to the constant work of its volunteers, among whom there are several citizens of foreign origin who live in the area.
New public interest entity
Fundación CANYA has also started 2025 with magnificent news at an associative level, having achieved official recognition as an entity of public interest. A qualification that, in addition to officially endorsing its work, also brings benefits such as the reduction of construction taxes and the streamlining of administrative authorisations, fundamental matters, especially at this time when the NGO is in the midst of the construction and equipment phase of its new shelter.
Opening scheduled for March
CANYA confirms that, following the contracting of a new construction company, the building of its new shelter on the Las Albutreras estate, also in Los Barrios, is progressing well, and includes the building of 20 partially roofed outdoor enclosures capable of housing around 50 dogs. In fact, the aim is to have these facilities available by March this year. All this has also been possible, as the association itself states, thanks to the generosity of its supporters and collaborators through their donations, among which CANYA especially highlights the Sunley Foundation and Bella Sunley for their fundamental financial support.
