Éxito de esta iniciativa enmarcada en el Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters que contó con la presencia de los profesionales Rasmus Højgaard y Jorge Campillo

Un año más, y ya van tres, el Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters demostró que es mucho más que un torneo de golf y contribuyó a mejorar la comunidad que acoge la prueba al poner en marcha la limpieza de la playa de Sotogrande protagonizada por los alumnos y profesores del International School durante la mañana del día 17, con el respaldo del Excelentísimo Ayuntamiento de San Roque y la inestimable colaboración de dos estrellas del DP World Tour, el danés Rasmus Højgaard y el español Jorge Campillo.

El entusiasmo y las ganas de colaborar de los noventa alumnos y siete profesores del International School fueron el combustible más eficaz y limpio para alimentar esta iniciativa promovida por el DP World Tour en el marco del programa Green Drive, integrado en la iniciativa Good for Golf de este circuito. Creado para fomentar la responsabilidad social y medioambiental y generar un impacto positivo en cada uno de los torneos del calendario del circuito, este programa se ha convertido en una auténtica referencia en el mundo del deporte y sigue generando iniciativas loables y eficaces. El DP World Tour ha firmado la iniciativa Deporte por la Acción Climática de las Naciones Unidas y se ha comprometido a reducir un 50% sus emisiones de carbono para 2030, y llegar al cero neto en emisiones de carbono en 2040.

La tercera edición de esta actividad tuvo al danés Rasmus Højgaard y el español Jorge Campillo, ambos ganadores en la temporada 2023 del DP World Tour, como protagonistas y espejo para los voluntarios, sobre todo para los aficionados al golf. Los golfistas del Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters dieron ejemplo y demostraron su capacidad de trabajo y su conciencia medioambiental.

De nuevo, los alumnos del International School dejaron patente que el futuro del medio ambiente está en buenas manos si depende de ellos, y ayudaron con entusiasmo a los dos jugadores profesionales.

Rasmus Højgaard aprovechó la ocasión para alzar la voz en defensa del medio ambiente y reclamar responsabilidad y sentido común a la hora de cuidarlo. “Creo que es una gran iniciativa, me encanta ver a tantos niños ayudando a limpiar la playa. Personalmente, intento dejar siempre limpios los lugares donde voy, así es como me educaron, a tener cuidado de mis cosas y no dejar basura. Cuando estaba en el colegio también fuimos un día a limpiar la playa y fue muy divertido”, recordó.

Por su parte, Jorge Campillo dejó claro lo importantes que resultan los esfuerzos, por pequeños que sean, para conservan el medio ambiente, especialmente en un rincón de España que le resulta tan querido. “Todos debemos hacer lo que esté en nuestras manos para mejorar nuestro entorno y es importante concienciar a los niños de que mantener las playas limpias es algo bueno para todos. Creo que en España se hace un buen trabajo en cuanto a mantener las playas limpias, pero cuanto más aportemos todos, mucho mejor”.

Un año más, el denodado trabajo de los voluntarios se vio recompensado con obsequios ofrecidos por la organización del Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters, torneo que se celebra del 19 al 22 de octubre en el Real Club de Golf Sotogrande y que contará con un plantel de lujo encabezado por los estadounidenses Wyndham Clark y Matt Kuchar, el neozelandés Ryan Fox, el italiano Francesco Molinari, el escocés Robert McIntyre, el polaco Adrian Meronk o el español Adrián Otaegui, defensor del título.

Kids lead clean-up at Sotogrande beach

For the third year running, the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters has shown its commitment to the community that hosts the event by staging a beach cleaning morning on Tuesday 17th with the support of the San Roque Town Hall and the invaluable cooperation of two DP World Tour stars, Dane Rasmus Højgaard and Spaniard Jorge Campillo. Students and teachers of the Sotogrande International School led the way.

On Tuesday of the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters tournament week, 90 pupils and 7 teachers from the Sotogrande International School launched a waste collection morning at Sotogrande beach as part of the DP World Tour Green Drive programme, within the DP World Tour’s Green for Golf initiative. Since its inception with a view to promote social and environmental responsibility and to generate a positive impact on every tournament on the tour schedule, this programme has become a benchmark in the world of sport as it keeps generating effective and successful initiatives.

The DP World Tour has signed up to the United Nations Sports for Climate Action, pledging to reduce carbon emissions by 50 per cent by 2030 and to be net zero carbon by 2040.

At the third edition of this activity, two 2023 DP World Tour winners, Rasmus Højgaard and Jorge Campillo acted as role models for the many volunteers who joined forces, especially for golf fans. Both participants in this week’s Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters set an inspiring example of hard work and environmental commitment.

Once again this year, the students of the International School showed that the future of the environment is in good hands by working enthusiastically alongside the pros. Several local representatives, who also took part in the clean-up, welcomed the initiative and applauded the involvement of the youngsters.

Rasmus Højgaard took the opportunity to speak up in defence of the environment and to call for common sense and responsibility in caring for the planet. “This is a great initiative. I love to see so many children helping to clean up the beach. Personally, I try to always leave the places where I go clean, that’s how I was brought up. When I was at school we also went to clean the beach one day and it was great fun,” said the Dane.

In turn, Jorge Campillo stressed the importance of every effort, however small, to care for the environment. “We must all do our best to improve our environment, and it’s important to make kids aware that keeping beaches clean is good for everyone. I believe that Spain is doing a good job in keeping beaches clean, but the more we all do our bit, the better.”
