El TPO (Trifenilfosfina Óxido) es un ingrediente químico que actúa como fotoiniciador, permite que ciertos productos de uñas se endurezcan al exponerse a la luz UV o LED. Durante años, ha sido utilizado en fórmulas de esmaltes semipermanentes, geles, bases y top coats, gracias a su eficacia para garantizar un secado rápido, brillo duradero y resistencia

La Unión Europea prohíbe la fabricación y distribución del TPO a partir del 1 de septiembre del 2025, tras una evaluación realizada por el Comité Científico de Seguridad del Consumidor. Este organismo concluyó que el TPO no es seguro en productos cosméticos, ya que lo consideran dentro del grupo de los carcinógenos, mutágenos o tóxicos para la reproducción y podría implicar riesgos en exposiciones prolongadas.

La eliminación del TPO ha impulsado el desarrollo de nuevas soluciones dentro del sector cosmético y existen alternativas seguras que no comprometen la calidad del servicio. Por ejemplo:

  • Bis-Trimethylbenzoyl Phenylphosphine Oxide
  • TMO (2,4,6-Trimethylbenzoyl bis(p-tolyl) phosphine oxide)
  • Hydroxycyclohexyl Phenyl Ketone (Irgacure 184)
  • Methyl Benzoylformate

Dicho esto, es importante destacar que las marcas más reconocidas en el sector de la belleza, como OPI o CND Shellac, hace años que han limpiado sus fórmulas de los componentes químicos menos saludables. Y esto no solo pasa en el ámbito de las uñas sino en la cosmética en general.

The European Union has banned the manufacture and distribution of TPO as of the 1st of September of 2025, following an evaluation by the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety. This body concluded that TPO is not safe in cosmetic products, classifying it among substances that are carcinogenic, mutagenic, or toxic to reproduction, and warning of potential risks from prolonged exposure.

The phasing out of TPO has driven the development of new solutions within the cosmetics sector, and there are safe alternatives that do not compromise the quality of the service. For example:
