La VI Bienal Flamenca ‘Canela de San Roque’ reunirá del 2 al 17 de octubre a artistas nacionales como Israel Fernández, Aurora Vargas, Marina Heredia y Antonio Reyes, junto a una destacada representación del Campo de Gibraltar
San Roque volverá a convertirse este otoño en uno de los grandes escenarios del flamenco en el Campo de Gibraltar con la celebración de la VI Bienal Flamenca Canela de San Roque, que se desarrollará del 2 al 17 de octubre con una programación que reúne a algunas de las voces y figuras más reconocidas del género junto a artistas vinculados a San Roque y su entorno.
Durante más de dos semanas, el Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo y las Peñas Flamencas de Guadiaro y San Roque serán los principales escenarios de una Bienal que ofrecerá recitales, espectáculos, conferencias y encuentros en torno al flamenco. El programa combina nombres de amplia trayectoria con intérpretes del Campo de Gibraltar, en una propuesta que busca acercar al público distintas generaciones y estilos.
La apertura, el viernes 2 de octubre, tendrá como protagonistas en el Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo a Aurora Vargas y El Perla, Lela Soto y Rubén Martínez, y Fernando Canela y Paco León. Será un comienzo especialmente significativo por la presencia de Fernando Canela, hijo de Canela de San Roque, y de Lela Soto, perteneciente a la legendaria Casa de los Sordera de Jerez. Aurora Vargas, una de las grandes figuras veteranas del cartel, aportará además una trayectoria ligada a los grandes tablaos y a compañías como la de Antonio Gades.
El sábado 3, la Bienal se trasladará a la Peña Flamenca de Guadiaro, con las actuaciones de Tomás de Parra y Amparo, Antonio Aparecida y Manuel Cortés, Kuko Peralta y Perico Cortés y Juan Benjumea. El domingo 4 llegará al Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo ‘El cuarto de los cabales’, espectáculo de David Morales, bailaor, coreógrafo y director nacido en La Línea de la Concepción. La propuesta recupera el ambiente de aquellas reuniones íntimas de artistas en las que el flamenco se compartía de forma espontánea y prolongada.
La segunda semana volverá a situar el cante en primer plano. El viernes 9 actuarán Jesús Méndez y Pepe del Morao, Esmeralda Rancapino y Antonio Higuero, y Carmen Carmona y Nono Reyes. El sábado 10 llegará una de las grandes citas de la Bienal: Marina Heredia y El Bolita. La cantaora granadina, ganadora del Giraldillo al Cante de la Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla en 2016, representa una de las voces consolidadas del flamenco contemporáneo.
El domingo 11 será nuevamente una peña, en este caso la Peña Flamenca San Roque, la que tome el protagonismo con Angelita Montoya y Paco Iglesias, Juan Delgado y Antonio Carrión, Manuel Peralta y Antonio Malena, y Juan Canela y Niño de la Leo. Una jornada dedicada a varios artistas vinculados al circuito flamenco del Campo de Gibraltar y Andalucía.
El tramo final comenzará el jueves 15 con una jornada dedicada al conocimiento y la investigación. Ramón Soler ofrecerá una conferencia dedicada a Luis Soler Guevara, investigador, escritor y divulgador fundamental para el estudio del flamenco del Campo de Gibraltar. La jornada se completará con las actuaciones de Paqui Lara y Manuel Peralta, José Canela y Paco León, y Lalo Macías.
El viernes 16, el Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo reunirá a Esperanza Fernández y Chaparro de Córdoba, Montse Cortés junto a Julio Cortés y Manuel Peralta, y Antonio Reyes y Nono Reyes.
La clausura, el sábado 17 de octubre, estará reservada para uno de los nombres de mayor repercusión internacional del flamenco actual: Israel Fernández, que actuará junto al guitarrista Diego del Morao. Una colaboración especialmente reconocida desde el trabajo conjunto en Amor, disco que recibió el Premio Odeón al Mejor Álbum Flamenco y fue nominado al Grammy Latino.
Las entradas para los espectáculos de pago tendrán un precio general de cinco euros, salvo la actuación de Israel Fernández, cuyas localidades tendrán un coste de 25 euros en patio de butacas y 18 euros en anfiteatro. Las actividades en las peñas serán gratuitas hasta completar aforo y las entradas están disponibles a través de Giglon.

San Roque becomes the capital of flamenco once again with a Bienal that brings together great figures and local talent
The 6th Flamenco Bienal ‘Canela de San Roque’ will bring together national artists such as Israel Fernández, Aurora Vargas, Marina Heredia and Antonio Reyes from the 2nd to the 17th of October, alongside a notable representation from the Campo de Gibraltar.
This autumn, San Roque will once again become one of the great flamenco stages in the Campo de Gibraltar with the holding of the 6th Canela de San Roque Flamenco Bienal, which will run from the 2nd to the 17th of October with a programme bringing together some of the genre’s most recognised voices and figures alongside artists linked to San Roque and its surrounding area.
Over more than two weeks, the Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo and the Peñas Flamencas of Guadiaro and San Roque will be the main venues for a Bienal offering recitals, shows, lectures and gatherings centred on flamenco. The programme combines names of wide-ranging experience with performers from the Campo de Gibraltar, in a proposal that seeks to bring different generations and styles closer to the public.
The opening, on Friday the 2nd of October, will feature Aurora Vargas and El Perla, Lela Soto and Rubén Martínez, and Fernando Canela and Paco León at the Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo. It will be a particularly significant start given the presence of Fernando Canela, son of Canela de San Roque, and of Lela Soto, belonging to the legendary Casa de los Sordera of Jerez. Aurora Vargas, one of the great veteran figures on the bill, will also bring a career linked to the great tablaos and to companies such as that of Antonio Gades.
On Saturday the 3rd, the Bienal will move to the Peña Flamenca de Guadiaro, with performances by Tomás de Parra and Amparo, Antonio Aparecida and Manuel Cortés, Kuko Peralta and Perico Cortés, and Juan Benjumea. On Sunday the 4th, ‘El cuarto de los cabales’ will arrive at the Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo, a show by David Morales, a bailaor, choreographer and director born in La Línea de la Concepción. The proposal recreates the atmosphere of those intimate gatherings of artists in which flamenco was shared spontaneously and at length.
The second week will once again place cante centre stage. On Friday the 9th, Jesús Méndez and Pepe del Morao, Esmeralda Rancapino and Antonio Higuero, and Carmen Carmona and Nono Reyes will perform. On Saturday the 10th comes one of the great dates of the Bienal: Marina Heredia and El Bolita. The Granada-born cantaora, winner of the Giraldillo al Cante at the Seville Flamenco Bienal in 2016, is one of the established voices of contemporary flamenco.
On Sunday the 11th it will once again be a peña, in this case the Peña Flamenca San Roque, that takes centre stage with Angelita Montoya and Paco Iglesias, Juan Delgado and Antonio Carrión, Manuel Peralta and Antonio Malena, and Juan Canela and Niño de la Leo. A day dedicated to various artists linked to the flamenco circuit of the Campo de Gibraltar and Andalusia.
The final stretch will begin on Thursday the 15th with a day dedicated to knowledge and research. Ramón Soler will give a lecture dedicated to Luis Soler Guevara, a researcher, writer and broadcaster fundamental to the study of flamenco in the Campo de Gibraltar. The day will be completed with performances by Paqui Lara and Manuel Peralta, José Canela and Paco León, and Lalo Macías.
On Friday the 16th, the Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo will bring together Esperanza Fernández and Chaparro de Córdoba, Montse Cortés alongside Julio Cortés and Manuel Peralta, and Antonio Reyes and Nono Reyes.
The closing event, on Saturday the 17th October, will be reserved for one of the most internationally renowned names in flamenco today: Israel Fernández, who will perform alongside guitarist Diego del Morao. A collaboration especially celebrated since their work together on Amor, an album that received the Odeón Award for Best Flamenco Album and was nominated for a Latin Grammy.
Tickets for the paid shows will have a general price of five euros, except for the performance by Israel Fernández, whose tickets will cost 25 euros in the stalls and 18 euros in the amphitheatre. Activities at the peñas will be free until capacity is reached, and tickets are available through Giglon.
