La décima edición del torneo en la zona, y segunda en el RC Sotogrande, concluyó con la victoria del francés Julien Guerrier sobre el español Jorge Campillo tras nueve hoyos de desempate
Julien Guerrier se alzó como el gran vencedor del Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters 2024 tras una emocionante y maratónica ronda de desempate en el Real Club de Golf Sotogrande. El francés de 39 años logró su primera victoria en el DP World Tour al imponerse a Jorge Campillo en el noveno hoyo de un playoff tenso y repleto de talento.
La impecable presentación del campo y la intensidad de la competición transformaron la décima edición del torneo en un espectáculo único.
La intranquilidad inicial con la meteorología de los días previos e incluso la primera jornada del torneo dio paso a un magnífico clima durante el resto del fin de semana, que favoreció el espectáculo para los miles de asistentes, tanto locales, como visitantes nacionales e internacionales, que no quisieron perderse la cita con la élite mundial del golf en Sotogrande.
Por parte española, dos jugadores captaron la mayoría de las miradas de los aficionados desde el primer día. Por un lado, el marbellí Ángel Hidalgo, que jugaba cerca de casa tras haber dado la sorpresa con su primer triunfo en el DP Wolrd Tour en el Open de España de Madrid semanas atrás. Por otro lado, el número uno nacional, Jon Rahm, y rival de Hidalgo en el emocionante desempate vivido en Madrid, que al confirmar su participación también en Sotogrande elevó las expectativas del torneo.
Sin embargo, ambos protagonizaron un discreto inicio de competición, que pronto fue alejándoles de las opciones de triunfo. No obstante, Rahm mostró en el Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters otra de sus espectaculares remontadas durante el último día en el que, partiendo con una desventaja de siete golpes, se lanzó a la ofensiva. Espoleado por el público, Rahm firmó cuatro birdies y dos impresionantes eagles, que aun así fueron insuficientes para alcanzar el podio, concluyendo en sexto lugar con -17.
Por delante de Rahm, los propios Guerrier y Campillo, además del inglés Daniel Brown, Rasmus Højgaard y Jordan Smith se mantuvieron firmes durante la última vuelta al histórico recorrido diseñado por Robert Trent Jones en Sotogrande, aunque finalmente, sólo el español y el francés fueron los que se jugaron el triunfo definitivo.
Campillo, que partía líder en la última jornada, tuvo que ver cómo Guerrier volvía a ofrecer su mejor versión, al igual que en el primer día de competición, hasta llegar a empatarle con -21 al terminar los 72 hoyos regulares del torneo empatados a -21.
Hasta en nueve ocasiones tuvieron que volver a medirse Guerrier y Campillo entre los hoyos 18 y 17 en un desempate que tuvo tensión y emoción a raudales, con espectaculares putts y salidas de bunker incluidas, hasta que el triunfo se decantó de lado del francés.
Un playoff que se convierte en uno de los más largos de la historia del DP World Tour y que supuso un emocionante broche de oro para esta segunda edición del Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters en el RC Sotogrande y la décima en esta zona, a la espera de que se confirme el futuro de esta cita internacional para el próximo año.

Sotogrande’s tenth edition of the tournament in the area, and its second held at RC Sotogrande, ended with the victory of Frenchman Julien Guerrier over Spaniard Jorge Campillo following a nine-hole play-off.
Julien Guerrier emerged as the winner of the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters of 2024 after a thrilling marathon playoff at Real Club de Golf Sotogrande. The 39 year old Frenchman claimed his first DP World Tour victory by beating Jorge Campillo on the ninth hole of a tense, scintillating playoff.
The impeccable layout of the course and the intensity of the competition transformed the tenth edition of the tournament into a unique extravaganza.
The initial uneasiness regarding the weather during the previous days and even during the first day of the tournament gave way to superb weather during the rest of the weekend. This favoured the event for the thousands of spectators, both locals and national and international visitors, who did not want to miss out on the appointment with the elite of the world of golf here in Sotogrande.
On the Spanish side, two players captured most of the fans’ attention from the first day. On the one hand, Marbella’s Angel Hidalgo, who played close to home after having caused quite a surprise with his first victory in the DP World Tour in the Spanish Open in Madrid a few weeks ago. On the other hand, the national top ranked player, Jon Rahm, and rival to Hidalgo in the exciting playoff in Madrid, who confirmed his participation also in Sotogrande, thus raising the expectations of the tournament.
However, both had a discreet start to the competition, which soon distanced them from their chances of victory. However, Rahm showed at the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters another of his spectacular comebacks during the last day in which, starting from a seven-shot deficit, launched himself on the offensive. Spurred on by the crowd, Rahm made four birdies and two impressive eagles, which were still not enough to reach the podium, eventually finishing in sixth place with -17.
Ahead of Rahm, Guerrier and Campillo themselves, as well as the Englishman Daniel Brown, Rasmus Højgaard and Jordan Smith held firm during the last round of the historic layout designed by Robert Trent Jones in Sotogrande. However, in the end, only the Spaniard and the Frenchman were the ones to play for the definitive victory.
Campillo, who started the final day in the lead, had to watch Guerrier once again show his best performance, as he did on the first day of competition, to tie him on -21 as they finished the 72 regular holes of the tournament.
Guerrier and Campillo had to play each other nine times between the 18th and 17th holes in a playoff full of tension and excitement, with spectacular putts and bunker exits all the way to the Frenchman’s victory.
A playoff that became one of the longest in the history of the DP World Tour and which provided an exciting finishing touch to this second edition of the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters at the RC Sotogrande and the tenth in the area, awaiting confirmation of the future of this international event for next year.
