La novena edición del Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters será recordada, además de por lo que depare la competición una vez que comience el torneo, por su histórico cambio de escenario. Tras haber celebrado en 2022 su última edición en Valderrama, a principios de este verano se confirmaba la gran noticia de que este importante torneo, plenamente asentado en el calendario del DP World Tour, se trasladaría al Real Club de Golf Sotogrande.
De esta forma, tras el acuerdo alcanzado entre los organizadores del torneo y el club con mayor tradición en la zona, se anunciaba que el RC Sotogrande acogerá esta importante competición internacional del 19 al 22 de octubre de 2023, confirmando una magnífica noticia para San Roque y Sotogrande por partida doble.
Así, el destino golfístico de mayor calidad de España conservaría su protagonismo en el DP World Tour y el Race to Dubai manteniéndose como uno de sus escenarios dentro de su calendario anual. El Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters llega al Real Club de Golf Sotogrande cuando este histórico club está a punto de cumplir su sexagésimo aniversario. Sin embargo, a pesar de su longevidad, su exigente recorrido se encuentra en plena forma para acoger una competición del máximo nivel gracias a la labor del equipo liderado por su greenkeeper Patrick Allende y a los trabajos llevados a cabo durante la última década.
Y es que el mítico recorrido del primer campo de estilo americano en la Europa Continental ha sido mimado al detalle para mantener al máximo las espectaculares sensaciones que ofrece al jugador de cualquier nivel, modernizando sus instalaciones e infraestructura, pero manteniendo su esencia.
De hecho, entre los años 2015 y 2017, el campo de 18 hoyos y el resto de las instalaciones de juego y prácticas fueron objeto de una completa restauración que contó con el asesoramiento del arquitecto americano Roger Rulewich, colaborador durante años del diseñador original del campo, Robert Trent Jones, y su colega David Fleury. Esta cuidada restauración mantuvo con cambios mínimos el diseño original y recuperó, entre otras características, la tradicional calidad de su hierba Bermuda 419 en tees, calles y roughs y Agrostis Penncross en los greenes.
Además, a la excelencia garantizada de su recorrido se suma además para la próxima cita la experiencia del club en la organización de pruebas deportivas ya que, si bien ésta es la vuelta del RC Sotogrande a la competición de élite, no es menos cierto que durante sus largos años de historia el club siempre ha sido escenario de diferentes pruebas internacionales a nivel amateur en las que se ha graduado la plana mayor del golf continental.
De hecho, en el palmarés del prestigioso Campeonato Europeo de Naciones: Copa de Sotogrande, con 50 años de historia, aparecen en las últimas décadas jugadores de la talla de Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Padraig Harrington o Francesco Molinari que triunfaron en su época amateur en este recorrido al que volverán a enfrentarse como estrellas consagradas de este deporte.

The legendary course from the first American-style layout in Continental Europe has been meticulously cared for in order to maximise the spectacular sensations it offers to players regardless of their level, with modernised facilities and infrastructure, while maintaining its essence.
