El acuarelista Paco Hernández continúa ofreciéndonos los diversos paisajes urbanos que encuentra en Sotogrande y los instantes cotidianos que logra capturar capturar en sus acuarelas

En esta ocasión, tal y como el propio artista nos cuenta, Paco aprovecha una salida con los alumnos de su taller de pintura para llevarnos al extremo oriental de la Marina de Sotogrande, donde el impresionante edificio del Hotel MiM Sotogrande, con su característico colorido, llama rápidamente su atención.

La acuarela:

Paco Hernández nos ofrece esta pintura desde una perspectiva sobradamente conocida para el residente o el visitante habitual de Sotogrande. A pié de calle junto al KÉ, el acuarelista capta este paisaje presidido por el edificio del hotel, con barcos atracados en el extremo del muelle frente a una hilera de coches aparcados y peatones transitando por la calle.

Una escena actual que, al no distinguirse letrero alguno en la obra, bien podría ser de esta misma tarde o de hace ya varios años, cuando ese hotel aún era el Marítimo, y alojaba el Restaurante Midas en su local de la planta baja. Esta atemporalidad de la obra no hace sino añadir más encanto al resultado final, y seguro que podrá evocar muchos recuerdos a los más veteranos de la comunidad local de Sotogrande.

Impresiones del artista:

“Hoy salimos a pintar con los alumnos, y decido acercarme a una de las zonas del Puerto que menos conozco, donde se encuentra el hotel recientemente restaurado. Ese color teja intenso capta mi atención desde el primer momento. Quizás los coches le resten algo de belleza a la escena, pero aprovecho esa supuesta debilidad para darle vida a la composición.

Como siempre, el Puerto está lleno de contrastes y diversidad, una zona viva durante todo el año. Pasamos un rato agradable pintando, compartiendo anécdotas y risas entre compañeros. El día soleado, aunque caluroso, parecía empeñado en recordarnos que el verano aún no se quiere marchar. Nada que no se solucione con unos refrescos y unas cervezas que hicieron la jornada más divertida.

Para esta obra utilicé tonos ocres y azul cobalto en el cielo, buscando recrear ese cielo de nubes típico de la época. Recortando el horizonte se alza la silueta del hotel, creando un contraste muy marcado con el entorno. Los barcos y el agua verde esmeralda refuerzan la sensación de estar en un puerto lleno de vida. Coches y gente no podían faltar en esta estampa de un lugar cada vez más visitado”.

Sotogrande in Watercolours: The New MiM Sotogrande

The watercolour artist Paco Hernández continues to offer us the diverse urban landscapes he discovers in Sotogrande and the everyday moments he captures in his paintings.

On this occasion, as the artist himself explains, Paco took advantage of an outing with his painting workshop students to visit the eastern end of the Sotogrande Marina, where the striking building of Hotel MiM Sotogrande, with its characteristic colours, immediately caught his attention.

The Watercolour:

Paco Hernández presents this painting from a perspective well known to both residents and regular visitors of Sotogrande. At street level near the KÉ, the artist captures the scene dominated by the hotel building, with boats moored at the end of the pier, a row of parked cars, and pedestrians walking along the street.

A contemporary scene that, with no signage visible in the painting, could easily be from this very afternoon or from several years ago, when the hotel was still the Marítimo and housed the Midas Restaurant on its ground floor. This timeless quality only adds charm to the final result and will surely evoke memories for long-time members of the Sotogrande community.

The Artist’s Impressions:

“Today we went out to paint with the students, and I decided to explore one of the areas of the Port I know least, where the recently restored hotel is located. That intense terracotta colour caught my attention from the very first moment. Perhaps the cars take away some beauty from the scene, but I used that supposed flaw to bring life to the composition.

As always, the Port is full of contrasts and diversity, a lively area all year round. We spent a pleasant time painting, sharing anecdotes and laughter among colleagues. The sunny, though hot, day seemed determined to remind us that summer did not want to leave yet. Nothing a few refreshments and beers couldn’t fix, which made the day even more enjoyable.

For this work, I used ochre tones and cobalt blue for the sky, trying to recreate that typical cloudy sky of the season. Cutting the horizon, the silhouette of the hotel rises, creating a strong contrast with the surroundings. The boats and emerald-green water enhance the feeling of being in a lively port. Cars and people could not be missing in this depiction of an increasingly visited location.”
