El golf ha estado presente desde prácticamente los inicios de Sotogrande, cuando Joseph McMicking encargó al más prestigioso diseñador de la época, Robert Trent Jones, que trazase el recorrido de lo que terminó siendo el RCG Sotogrande.
A partir de ahí, el crecimiento de la actividad del golf ha ido siempre de la mano del desarrollo de Sotogrande, con la proliferación del resto de prestigiosos campos de la zona y su entorno más cercano, que han atraído cada vez más visitantes y residentes hasta convertirse, sin duda, en el destino turístico de golf por excelencia de Europa.
Un punto de inflexión histórico para ello fue la Ryder Cup de 1997 en Valderrama, que demostró definitivamente el enorme potencial del Sur de Andalucía para acoger este turismo de calidad, que viene unido a un gran desarrollo hostelero y residencial.
Una relación simbiótica de la que Sotogrande es su mejor ejemplo y que no para de crecer año tras año, renovándose con más inversiones y proyectos en el sector, y con novedades tan importantes como las de este 2023. Del 30 de junio al 2 de julio, el definido como mejor campo de la Europa continental, el Real Club Valderrama, vuelve a hacer historia albergando por primera vez un torneo del LIV Golf, el nuevo circuito internacional que ha revolucionado al golf mundial, atrayendo la atención de las máximas figuras de este deporte.
Por eso Sotogrande y Golf son sinónimos, una relación histórica y que, desde hace décadas hasta la actualidad, sigue generando actividad económica y empleo en nuestra tierra.

Sotogrande and golf
Golf has been around since almost the very beginnings of Sotogrande, when Joseph McMicking commissioned the most prestigious designer of the time, Robert Trent Jones, to design the course for what was to become the RCG Sotogrande.
Since then, the growth of golf has always gone hand in hand with the development of Sotogrande, with the proliferation of the other prestigious courses in the area and its immediate surroundings, which have attracted increasing numbers of visitors and residents until it has become, without doubt, the golf tourist destination par excellence in Europe.
A historic turning point for this was the 1997 Ryder Cup in Valderrama, which definitively demonstrated the enormous potential of southern Andalusia to host high-quality tourism, coupled with large-scale hotel and residential development.
A symbiotic relationship of which Sotogrande is the best example and which continues to grow year after year, renewing itself with more investments and projects in the sector, and with important new developments such as those of this 2023. Between the 30th of June and the 2nd of July, the course defined as the best in continental Europe, the Real Club Valderrama, will once again make history by hosting a LIV Golf tournament for the first time. This is the new international circuit that has revolutionised golf worldwide, attracting the attention of the most important figures in the sport.
For this reason, Sotogrande and Golf are synonymous, a historical relationship which, for decades and even to this day, continues to generate economic activity and employment in our land.
